How Does a Fragility Fracture Occur?

Systemic bone loss is something that affects everyone – people begin to lose bone mass starting in their mid-30s. However, some people lose bone mass faster than others, resulting in a disease called osteoporosis.

The bone loss caused by osteoporosis increases the risk of fractures, particularly of the wrist, spine, shoulder and hip. In fact, over 80% of all fractures in people over age 50 are caused by osteoporosis.
