When Kerry Brennan was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2020, her world was turned upside down.

I do believe as individuals, especially in our industry, that we can all strive to improve things such as health literacy, access to unfunded regimens, initiatives to help patients manage anxiety and quality of life, more cancer care navigators who have lived the experience and, most of all, to bring that You Can attitude.

Here I am exactly one year ago today, December 20th, 2020. I guess you can say I've come a long way. I still have lots of bad hair days and lingering toxicities, but none that cannot be overcome.

Cancer blessed me with reconnections to so many old friends, deepened my relationships with others, and allowed me to pause and decide in the moment what really matters. I let far fewer things bother me now, and personally, through acquaintances, I try to shine a light to help others newly facing breast cancer to deal with the uncertainty.

So, with a poorly executed snap of my neuropathy fingers, let's flood the world with more positivity and pay it forward. Thank you to my Amgen family who always lifted me up with inspirational messages. I'll close with one of the little “You're awesome! You matter!” card quotes with a tiny bit of my own spin.

This one was by Edwin Elliott, and it says “By being the best version of yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before.”
