Amgen Canada's $1.5 Million Donation Will Improve the Lives of Credit Valley Patients
April 14, 2009, MISSISSAUGA, ON: Amgen Canada, the world’s leading biotechnology company, is donating $1.5 million to The Credit Valley Hospital.

The grant will facilitate the placement of the Optimal Care Program for Credit Valley’s renal patients. Amgen’s funding will make possible the creation of internal training materials, the continued education of staff, the purchase of safety-focused products, and the installation of a project manager to work with patients to identify and remove obstacles to home therapies and address pain management issues.

The program will be administered through the Renal Program led by Dr. George Wu.

“The ultimate success of this initiative provides the potential to become a quality enhancement model not only hospital-wide, but industry-wide,” Dr. Wu pronounced.

“When a disease afflicts so many patients, it is incumbent upon all of us to do what we can to ensure  that top calibre physicians like the Nephrologists at The Credit Valley Hospitalhave the resources they need to deliver the best care for kidney disease patients,” said Dr. Daniel Billen, Vice-President and General Manager at Amgen Canada. “At Amgen our mission is to serve patients and we are proud to support this best-in-class quality initiative.”

With their main operations located right here in Mississauga, Amgen Canada has been an important contributor to Canada’s biotechnology sector since 1991. Every day Amgen Canada applies science and innovation to help fight serious illness and dramatically improve people’s lives. Amgen Canada serves patients throughout Canada by delivering vital medicines to them. Today, tens of thousands of Canadians use Amgen medicines every year, and thousands more are enrolling in Amgen clinical studies to deliver the next generation of innovation.

“Amgen’s funding will create a model of excellence in patient care by taking Credit Valley’s renal program to a level unprecedented in our history,” said Norma Bandler, The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation President and CEO. “We are grateful for Amgen’s active participation in making our hospital great.”
