
While the Amgen research centre in Burnaby, British Columbia offers laboratory bases opportunities for scientists, Medical Affairs specialists liaise with physicians across the country to collaboratively generate and review new medical data and applications to enhance patient care.
Medical information specialists maintain detailed scientific data on all Amgen’s products. They are on call to respond to queries from health-care professionals and patients on all aspects of Amgen’s products.
Regulatory Affairs specialists are responsible for working with Health Canada to obtain the approval for Amgen’s medicines in Canada. They maintain close communication with Health Canada on issues relating to all Amgen’s products, both those currently available to Canadian patients as well as those in clinical trials being conducted in Canada.
Medical communications professionals develop and distribute detailed medical information materials on Amgen products and help to coordinate continuing education events for the medical community.
Amgen Canada conducts significant numbers of clinical trials in conjunction with leading academic research institutions, hospitals, and clinics throughout Canada. Amgen Canada’s Development Operations team, working with colleagues around the world, participates in many major Amgen global clinical programs spanning Phases 1–4 in nephrology, oncology, neuroscience, inflammation, osteoporosis and metabolic disorders. Since 1991, more than 7,000 patients have enrolled in Amgen clinical trials in Canada. Currently some 2,000 Canadian patients are active in more than 50 trials at about 500 sites across Canada. Those sites include major teaching hospitals as well as community-based sites.
